JATIMTIMES - Terapi pelepasan ketegangan rahang atau deep jaw release therapy mendadak menjadi perbincangan setelah penyanyi country LeAnn Rimes membagikan pengalaman emosionalnya saat menjalani prosedur tersebut. Video yang memperlihatkan dirinya menangis usai terapi viral di media sosial membuat rasa penasaran publik mengenai manfaat metode tersebut.

Dalam tayangan yang diunggah akun Human Garage di Instagram, LeAnn terlihat menjalani terapi selama sekitar satu menit. Prosedur tersebut dilakukan dengan memberikan tekanan pada bagian dalam rahang melalui mulut untuk melemaskan otot-otot yang selama ini menyimpan ketegangan.

Fisioterapis Jeanne Marie Ubalde menjelaskan bahwa terapi tersebut merupakan prosedur klinis yang berfokus pada otot-otot rahang yang berkaitan dengan stres maupun kebiasaan mengatupkan gigi secara tidak sadar.

“Setelah pemeriksaan TMJ, leher, dan postur tubuh dilakukan, pasien akan berbaring telentang lalu saya melakukan terapi manual internal pada otot rahang yang berkontribusi terhadap kebiasaan mengatupkan rahang,” jelas Ubalde.

Menurut dia, area yang paling sering menjadi sasaran terapi adalah otot masseter dan internal pterygoid. Terapis akan mencari titik-titik tegang atau trigger point sebelum memberikan tekanan, pijatan, maupun peregangan untuk membantu mengembalikan fungsi otot.

Otot-otot tersebut memiliki hubungan erat dengan Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), yakni sendi yang berperan dalam aktivitas mengunyah, berbicara, hingga membuka mulut. Ketegangan berlebih pada area ini dapat memicu rasa nyeri serta membatasi pergerakan rahang.

“Terapi manual ini membantu melepaskan ketegangan otot, memperbaiki pergerakan otot, serta mengurangi kebiasaan mengatupkan rahang untuk meredakan nyeri dan meningkatkan rentang gerak TMJ,” imbuh Ubalde.

Ia menambahkan, pelepasan ketegangan pada sebagian orang dapat memunculkan respons emosional, termasuk tangisan yang muncul akibat rasa lega. Kebiasaan menggertakkan gigi maupun mengencangkan rahang tanpa disadari kerap menjadi cara tubuh merespons tekanan dan stres.

“Saya sering melihat hasil positif setelah satu sesi. Sementara efek jangka panjang biasanya terlihat setelah 4-6 kali terapi disertai latihan di rumah,” tambahnya.

Sementara itu, chiropractor Dr David menambahkan, kondisi rahang yang terlalu tegang dapat memengaruhi kenyamanan tubuh secara keseluruhan dan memicu berbagai keluhan lain.

“Terapi ini dirancang untuk melepaskan ketegangan pada otot masseter agar pergerakan TMJ menjadi lebih baik,” kata dia.

Selain membantu mengurangi nyeri rahang, terapi tersebut juga dikaitkan dengan penurunan keluhan sakit kepala, kebiasaan menggertakkan gigi, nyeri pada wajah dan leher, hingga stres yang berlebihan. Meski demikian, manfaatnya dapat berbeda pada setiap orang dan biasanya memerlukan beberapa sesi perawatan.

“Setelah deep jaw release, idealnya tubuh terasa lebih rileks, stres dan ketegangan berkurang, serta muncul rasa lebih jernih dan bertenaga,” ucap dia.
