Ahli kardiologi Douglas Zuckermann , MD menjelaskan bahwa kurang tidur membuat tubuh kehilangan waktu pemulihan penting setiap malam. “Hal ini menyebabkan peningkatan hormon stres seperti kortisol, peningkatan tekanan darah saat tidur, dan lebih banyak peradangan. Semua itu memberi tekanan tambahan pada jantung dan pembuluh darah,” jelas Douglas.
Ia menambahkan, jika kondisi tersebut berlangsung terus-menerus, jantung akan bekerja lebih keras dan meningkatkan risiko tekanan darah tinggi hingga penyakit jantung.

Ketika seseorang sering tidur terlalu larut atau jam tidurnya berubah-ubah, ritme alami tubuh menjadi terganggu. Kondisi ini dapat memengaruhi kerja jantung dan tekanan darah.
Ahli kardiologi Cynthia A. Kos, DO, FACC mengatakan jadwal tidur yang tidak teratur bisa membuat tubuh tetap berada dalam kondisi stres.
“Gangguan ritme sirkadian dapat meningkatkan aktivitas sistem saraf simpatik, membuat tubuh terus berada dalam mode ‘fight or flight’ yang memberi tekanan tambahan pada jantung,” ujar Cynthia.
Paparan cahaya di malam hari, begadang, hingga kebiasaan sering terjaga tengah malam menjadi beberapa faktor yang dapat merusak ritme biologis tubuh.
2. Tekanan Darah Tidak Turun Saat Tidur Normalnya, tekanan darah akan menurun ketika seseorang tidur pada malam hari. Penurunan alami ini penting untuk memberi kesempatan bagi jantung dan pembuluh darah beristirahat.
Namun, tidur yang tidak teratur bisa menghambat proses tersebut. Akibatnya, tekanan darah tetap tinggi bahkan saat tubuh sedang beristirahat.
Ahli kardiologi Caroline Ball, MD, FACC menjelaskan bahwa orang yang tidak mengalami penurunan tekanan darah saat tidur memiliki risiko lebih tinggi terkena penyakit kardiovaskular.
Tekanan darah yang terus tinggi dalam jangka panjang dapat merusak arteri dan meningkatkan kemungkinan terkena serangan jantung maupun stroke.

3. Mengganggu Metabolisme Tubuh Kurang tidur juga sering memicu pola makan yang tidak sehat. Saat tubuh lelah, seseorang cenderung mengonsumsi makanan tinggi gula, camilan berkalori tinggi, atau minuman berkafein untuk menambah energi.
Menurut Caroline Ball, kondisi ini membuat seseorang lebih sulit menjaga gaya hidup sehat.
“Ketika tubuh lelah karena kurang tidur, akan lebih sulit membuat pilihan makanan sehat dan rutin berolahraga,” jelasnya.
Selain itu, tidur yang tidak teratur juga dapat mengganggu cara tubuh memproses gula dan mengatur nafsu makan. Berbagai penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola tidur buruk berkaitan dengan peningkatan risiko obesitas, sindrom metabolik, dan tekanan darah tinggi yang semuanya berhubungan dengan penyakit jantung.
4. Memicu Peradangan Kronis Tidur yang tidak konsisten ternyata juga berkaitan dengan munculnya peradangan kronis dalam tubuh. Kondisi ini menjadi salah satu faktor utama terbentuknya aterosklerosis atau penumpukan plak di pembuluh darah.
Douglas Zuckermann menjelaskan bahwa kurang tidur dapat mengganggu keseimbangan hormon dan metabolisme glukosa, sehingga memberi beban lebih besar pada sistem kardiovaskular.
Tak hanya kurang tidur, tidur terlalu lama juga bisa berdampak negatif bagi kesehatan. Menurut Douglas, durasi tidur berlebihan berpotensi mengganggu metabolisme tubuh, meningkatkan tekanan darah, serta memicu peradangan yang dapat memperbesar risiko penyakit jantung.
Para ahli menyarankan orang dewasa untuk tidur sekitar 7–9 jam setiap malam dengan jadwal yang konsisten. Tidur dan bangun pada jam yang sama setiap hari dapat membantu menjaga ritme biologis tubuh tetap stabil.
Selain menjaga kesehatan jantung, pola tidur yang baik juga membantu meningkatkan konsentrasi, menjaga suasana hati, dan memperbaiki daya tahan tubuh.
