JATIMTIMES - Rupanya, dari sekian banyak ikan ada salah satu ikan yang memiliki julukan 'ikan paling jelek sedunia'. Julukan ini diberikan pada Blobfish.
Ikan ini sempat menjadi perbincangan publik karena wajah ikan ini kerap dijadikan meme dan juga emoji. Bahkan, sebuah organisasi bernama The Ugly Animal Preservation pada tahun 2013 membuat voting online, apakah hewan terjelek di dunia yang pantas menjadi maskot baru mereka.

Pada kedalaman tersebut, blobfish hidup di habitat dengan cahaya yang minim dan tekanan yang sangat kuat. Akibat dari habitatnya ini, tubuh blobfish memiliki tulang yang sangat lunak, otot yang sangat sedikit, dan daging yang seperti jeli.
Ketika secara tidak sengaja tersangkut di jaring dan dibawa ke permukaan di mana hanya ada sedikit tekanan, blobfish mengalami dekompresi, hal ini menyebabkan wujudnya terlihat sangat berbeda.
Ketika berada di dasar laut, ikan ini terlihat sangat mirip dengan ikan-ikan pada umumnya, walaupun tetap terlihat aneh.
Karena tempat tinggal ikan ini yang berada jauh didasar laut membuat para ilmuan kesusahan untuk mempelajari mereka di habitat aslinya. Namun, para ilmuwan percaya bahwa ikan ini masih berkerabat dengan keluarga ikan lain yang dikenal sebagai flathead sculpins.
Tubuh mereka yang seperti jeli tidak memiliki organ yang disebut “kantung renang”, organ ini memungkinkan ikan lain mempertahankan daya apung. Untungnya, tubuh mereka tidak sepadat air di sekelilingnya, sehingga mereka mengapung tepat di atas dasar lautan.
Tanpa banyak struktur tubuh atau otot, mereka tidak bisa mengejar mangsa. Sebaliknya, mereka mungkin menunggu dengan sabar di dekat dasar laut untuk menunggu krustasea kecil dan makanan lain yang bisa dimakan masuk ke dalam mulut mereka.

Blobfish tidak mempunyai gigi sehingga makanan yang dikonsumsinya hanyalah bakteri mikroskopis dan makhluk laut yang kecil.
Untuk reproduksi, sampai sekarang belum ada peneliti yang dapat mengetahui secara meyakinkan bagaimana reproduksi dari blobfish. Yang pasti, si betina dapat menghasilkan ribuan telur berwarna merah muda di dasar laut.
Setelah itu, betina atau jantan akan menjaga telur-telurnya karena blobfish tidak berada di dekat tanaman laut atau gua. Tapi tetap saja proses perkawinannya masih menjadi misteri.
Blobfish tidak memiliki predator. Dilansir Fact Animal, musuh abadinya hanyalah manusia yang secara tidak sengaja menangkap blobfish di jaring pukat laut dalam.
Meskipun baru ditemukan, pada tahun 2010, namun blobfish mampu menginspirasi seniman budaya pop dalam berkarya. Seperti Michael Hearst, penulis dan musisi yang membuat lagu berjudul “Blobfish” dalam album Songs for Unusual Creator di tahun 2012.
Tak hanya itu, blobfish pun pernah menjadi cameo dalam film Men in Black 3 bersama dengan alien-alien yang unik.
