JATIMTIMES - Upaya menjaga kejayaan apel sebagai buah khas Kota Batu terus dilakukan para petani. Salah satunya dilakukan Utomo, petani asal Dusun Gerdu, Desa Tulungrejo, Kecamatan Bumiaji, yang mulai menerapkan sistem budidaya semiorganik pada kebun apel miliknya.

Metode tersebut menggabungkan penggunaan pupuk kimia dan pupuk organik. Pupuk kimia hanya dimanfaatkan pada fase awal pembentukan bunga, sedangkan saat buah memasuki usia sekitar 2,5 bulan hingga masa panen, perawatan dilakukan sepenuhnya menggunakan bahan organik.

“Saya belum berani full organik saat masa pembungaan. Tapi umur 2 bulan setengah sampai tua harus sudah masuk organik sampai panen,” kata Utomo.

Ketua Kelompok Tani Maju Bersama itu menjelaskan, pupuk kimia hanya digunakan untuk penyemprotan bunga. Sementara kebutuhan nutrisi pada akar pohon tetap dipenuhi menggunakan pupuk kandang yang dipadukan dengan sekam.

Untuk pemberian pupuk di area perakaran, Utomo memiliki cara khusus. Ia membuat parit sedalam sekitar 20 sentimeter yang mengelilingi batang pohon, lalu mengisinya dengan campuran pupuk kandang dan sekam agar unsur hara dapat terserap lebih optimal.

Tak hanya itu, cairan organik untuk penyemprotan tanaman juga diracik sendiri dari berbagai bahan alami.

“Untuk pupuk organik yang untuk disemprot, saya meracik sendiri. Fragmentasi dari beberapa bahan alami,” imbuhnya.

Menurut Utomo, penerapan sistem semiorganik mulai menunjukkan hasil positif. Selain mampu memangkas biaya operasional hingga sekitar 40 persen, kualitas buah yang dihasilkan dinilai lebih baik dan memiliki cita rasa yang berbeda dibandingkan saat masih mengandalkan pupuk kimia secara penuh.

Sebelumnya, produksi kebun apel miliknya berkisar antara 4 hingga 6 ton per tahun. Setelah dua kali masa panen menggunakan metode semiorganik, ia optimistis produktivitas tanaman akan meningkat.

“Saya baru 2 kali panen menerapkan semiorganik. Insya Allah sekarang lebih banyak hasilnya. Sudah kelihatan, karena buahnya bergerombol,” ungkapnya.

Keuntungan lain yang dirasakan adalah berkurangnya serangan hama, terutama lalat buah yang selama beberapa tahun terakhir menjadi momok bagi petani apel di Kota Batu. Untuk menekan serangan hama tersebut, buah apel dibungkus dan penyemprotan organik dilakukan lebih intensif.

“Salah satunya memang buah apel kita bungkus untuk menghindari lalat buah. Semprotan organik juga saya intenskan supaya hama menjauh,” jelas bapak dua anak ini.

Utomo menilai langkah beralih ke sistem semiorganik juga menjadi bagian dari upaya mempertahankan eksistensi apel sebagai identitas Kota Batu. Ia menyebut luas kebun apel di Dusun Gerdu terus menyusut. Dari sekitar 50 hektare yang pernah ada, kini tersisa sekitar 25 hektare.

Saat ini, Utomo mengelola lahan apel seluas 5.000 meter persegi yang terbagi dalam delapan petak. Tiga petak di antaranya sudah menggunakan sistem semiorganik, sedangkan sisanya akan menyusul secara bertahap seiring ketersediaan tenaga kerja.
